FAYETTE, Mo. – On a perfect fall Saturday morning, the (RV) Central Methodist women's soccer team honored five seniors before handling Mount Mercy (Iowa), 5-0.
Anika Kallash (SO/Troy, Mo.) netted a hat trick, while Rachel Topliss (SR/Walsall, England) and Kayla Deaver (FR/Lee's Summit, Mo.) each scored once to lead the Central Methodist attack.
Judith Sainz (JR/Pamplona, Spain) recorded two assists in the contest followed by Sara Cobollo (SO/Madrid, Spain), Melissa Fuentes (SR/Reedley, Calif.) and Elly Boothe (SO/Silex, Mo.) each with one.
The Eagles jumped out to a 4-0 halftime lead, ignited by back-to-back goals from Kallash and Topliss just 31 seconds apart.
Mount Mercy didn't muster any shots in the first half, and every quality chance in the second half was snuffed out by Ashlynn Freeman (JR/Moberly, Mo.), who recorded three saves. Alexis Garlock (FR/Union, Mo. ) saw action in the net as well, nabbing one save.
Central Methodist finishes the regular season 14-4 (9-2 in Heart).
Next up for the Eagles is the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament. Opening round play is set for Tuesday Oct. 30, but Central Methodist is guaranteed a first-round bye and will host a quarterfinal match-up on Friday, Nov. 2 against a to be determined team.
