ATCHISON, Kan. — On a frigid fall Friday night, the (RV) Central Methodist women's soccer team couldn't pull off an upset in the Heart Postseason Tournament Final, falling to No. 9 Benedictine, 1-0.
The Ravens struck first in the eighth minute, as Olivia Meyers took a cross from Maisy Louree and sent it to the far post, just out of Ashylnn Freeman's reach.
Although Benedictine controlled the offensive tempo in the first half, putting up eight shots to Central Methodist's four, the Eagles picked up the pace in the second half.
Despite racking up eight shots in the second frame, Central Methodist just couldn't quite break through the back wall of Benedictine.
Freeman kept the game close by recording eight saves in the net. Anika Kallash (SO/Troy, Mo.) and Kayla Deaver (FR/Lee's Summit, Mo.) both had four shots to lead the offense.
The next game for Central Methodist will be in the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round. The selection show is set for Monday, Nov. 12 at 11 am CT on Facebook Live. Stay tuned to cmueagles.com for updates.
