KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After a remarkable season, three Central Methodist women's soccer players were honored as NAIA All-Americans, the national office announced Wednesday.
Anika Kallash (JR/Troy, Mo.), Judith Sainz (SR/Pamplona, Spain), and Mireia Lopez (SR/Barcelona, Spain) became the 5th, 6th, and 7th NAIA All-Americans in Central Methodist women's soccer history. Kallash was named to the Second Team, while Sainz and Lopez both received honorable mention.
Kallash received the honor after a record-breaking season in which she scored 34 goals, smashing the previous record of 16 set in 2016 by Nicki Noreen. Her goal total ranked 5th in the NAIA. She also had 13 assists, which tied Sainz for the school record. Her total of 81 points also ranked 5th in the NAIA.
Sainz was named Honorable Mention All-American for the second time in her career after previously earning the recognition in 2017. Her goal total of 31 put her at No. 2 on the single-season goals list at CMU. For her career, Sainz has tallied 71 goals, breaking the previous school record of 53 also set by Noreen. After recording 13 assists in 2019, Sainz also holds the school record for career assists with 29.
In her final season, Lopez anchored a back line that recorded nine shutouts and only allowed 0.87 goals/game. The All-American distinction is the first of her career and comes after being named the Heart Defensive Player of the Year last month.
The women's soccer program set a number of milestones during the historic 2019 season, including a program-high national ranking at No. 5, the program's first-ever conference tournament title, and making the program's first-ever appearance at the final site of the national championship.
