Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist men's and women's soccer teams continue to impress at the conference level, as Tom Irion was named the men's soccer defender of the week, while Anika Kallash claimed women's soccer offensive player of the week honors.
It marks the second time this season that Irion and Kallash have taken home player of the week awards.
Irion led the Central backline to two wins against Park and Culver-Stockton, as the defense gave up only eight total shots, three of which were on goal in the two matches. He also scored two goals against Culver-Stockton and netted the game-winner over Park in the final two minutes of play to secure the victory. The win over Park solidified the Eagles' third-straight regular-season conference championship.
Kallash scored the game-winning goal against Culver-Stockton Wednesday and tied the single-game program record with five goals scored in Central's 12-0 victory Mount Mercy. She also picked up an assist. Overall, the senior recorded 17 shots with 11 on frame through two matches last week. Kallash now has 14 goals on the season, good for second in the conference. She also leads the Heart in assists (11), shots/game (5.90), and shots on goal/game (4).
The men and women will travel to Des Moines, Iowa on Wednesday, Nov. 11 for a matchup against Grand View University. The women start the doubleheader with a 3:00 p.m. kickoff, followed by the men at 5:30 p.m.
