Columbia, Mo. - The No. 1 seeded Central Methodist women's soccer program opened national tournament play with an 8-0 route of No. 4 seeded Bellevue (Neb.) Saturday afternoon in Columbia, Mo.
The Eagles earn their 20th win of the season, marking the third-straight year Central has tallied at least 20 wins. Bellevue ends the year with an 8-11 overall record.
Central scored six goals in the span of 16 minutes in the first half, highlighted by a hat trick from Marcella Helena. Roneisha Frank scored the opening goal of the match in the 12th minute, followed by a pair of goals from Andrea Villar (17' and 27') and three goals from Helena (19', 26', and 28').
Grace Faherty scored her second-straight goal in as many games just before halftime to push the lead to 7-0 at the break.
Sandra Jakobsen put the finishing touches on the victory with a goal in the 61st minute. Central wrapped up the afternoon with 34 total shots including 13 on goal, compared to only one shot for Tabor.
Villar led the offense with seven shots, including two on goal and a brace. The Madrid, Spain native now has 27 goals in 20 matches this season, good enough for No. 4 all-time for single-season goals in school history. She also dished out two assists in the victory.
Helena added five total shots including three on goal and three scores. It marks the freshman's fifth multiscore game of the year and her first career-hat trick.
Helena, Kaia Randklev, and Celine Whitt each recorded an assist.
The Eagles will look to advance to the Final Site, as they take on No. 2 seeded Columbia College in the Opening Round Championship Saturday, Nov. 20 at 3:30 p.m. in Columbia, Mo.
