No. 10 Cumberlands Knocks off No. 3 Central in St. Louis

St. Louis, Mo. - The No. 3 Central Methodist Women's Soccer team stumbled in a 2-1 loss to No. 10 Cumberlands Friday night in St. Louis, Mo.

The Eagles drop to 1-1, while the Patriots improve to 2-0-1.

Cumberlands took a 1-0 lead just 12 minutes into the game and maintained the one-goal advantage heading into halftime. The Eagles broke through in the 68th minute, as Marcella Helena scored unassisted to tie the game at 1-1.

However less than two minutes later, Cumberlands jumped back out in front for a 2-1 lead, which proved to be the final score.

The game was evenly balanced for both teams, as Central finished the evening with 12 shots including nine on goal, while the Patriots fired off 11 shots with seven coming on frame.

Helena led the way for the Eagles offense with three shots, all three coming on goal. Maria Cervello and Jade Perrin each tallied two shots on goal, while Judit Gonzalez Oliveras made five saves in between the posts.

The Eagles will square off against No. 9 Aquinas for another Top 10 matchup Sunday, August 28 at 12:00 p.m. in St. Louis.
