Marshall, Mo. - The No. 7 Central Methodist Women's Soccer program earned a 1-1 draw against rival and No. 15 nationally ranked Missouri Valley College Wednesday night in Marshall, Mo.
The Eagles now stand at 6-2-1 and 2-0-1 in the conference, while Missouri Valley moves to 4-2-2 and 1-1-1 in Heart play.
It was a scoreless match after one half of play, as both sides were fairly even in shots taken. Central tallied four first half shots while Missouri Valley added three. The deadlock was broken in the 74th minute of play after a foul by CMU put the Vikings in scoring position on a free-kick just outside the box.
From 20 yards out, Missouri Valley converted on a free-kick which ricocheted off the cross bar and bounced into the net for the first score of the game.
Less than five minutes later, a defensive miscue by the Vikings goalkeeper allowed reigning Heart Offensive Player of the Week Roneisha Frank to gather the ball inside the box and easily score to tie the match at 1-1.
That proved to be the final score as neither team was able to add the additional goal needed in the final 15 minutes of play.
Frank led the offensive charge with four shots taken, followed by Marcella Helena with three. Overall, Central tallied 11 total shots including four on goal compared to seven shots and four on goal for Missouri Valley.
Judit Gonzalez Oliveras finished the evening with three saves and one goal allowed in a full 90 minutes in between the posts.
Central returns home to host Graceland University Saturday, Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in Davis Field.
