Baldwin City, Kan. - The No. 8 Central Methodist Women's Soccer team used a strong offensive output to cruise past Baker University, 3-1 Wednesday night in Baldwin City, Kan.
With the win, Central improves its overall record to 13-2-1 and 9-0-1 in the Heart. Baker falls to 7-7-2 and 3-6-2 in conference action.
The Eagles struck first in the 14th minute of play as Manuela Polachini sent a ball into the net that found the feet of Sandra Jakobsen. Jakobsen scored after an initial goal save by the keeper allowed for the put back, giving CMU a 1-0 lead.
Less than 90 seconds later, Roneisha Frank scored on a header off the assist from Cerys Pinchard to extend Central's lead to 2-0. The Eagles would add one more in the 28th minute after a tap in goal from Marcella Helena, with the assist coming from Jakobsen.
Baker got on the scoreboard off a miscue by the Central goalkeeper less than five minutes later to trim the lead to 3-1. However, Central's defense kept BU's offense at bay for the remainder of the first half and the match.
CMU's offense commanded possession from start to finish, firing off 35 total shots including 15 on goal, compared to just four shots and two on goal for the Widcats.
Jakobsen and Frank led the offense with seven shots and three shots on goal a piece. Polachini, Helena, and Maria Cervello all finished the match with four shots taken.
Sophomore goalkeeper Max De Armas Colombo earned her first win of the year, playing all 90 minutes between the posts.
Central will host William Penn University Saturday, Oct. 29 at 3:30 p.m. The Eagles will also honor the 2022-23 senior class prior to the match as part of senior day festivities.
