Fayette, Mo. - The No. 8 Central Methodist women's soccer team shut out William Penn 8-0 Saturday afternoon at Davis Field.
With the victory, Central improves to 14-2-1 and 10-0-1 in Heart play. The Statesmen fall to 3-12-1 and 3-8-1 in the conference.
Prior to the match, the Eagles honored their 2022 CMU Women's Soccer Senior Class which included Kitti Torok, Laura Riesenbeck, Maria Cervello, Sandra Jakobsen, Alexis Ashmore, and Roneisha Frank.
The Eagles scored four first half goals beginning with Manuela Polachini in just the fourth minute of play. Seniors Ashmore and Cervello would score back-to-back goals in a span of just 90 seconds to extend the lead to 3-0.
Fellow senior Frank capped the first half with a goal and the assist from Jakobsen in the 19th minute of play.
Marcella Helena (58'), Ashmore (61'), and Stine Lie (70') each added second half goals to make the final score 7-0 over William Penn.
Central finished the evening firing off 26 shots including 15 shots on goal. The Statesmen tallied just two shots including one on goal late in the match.
Frank led the way with six shots including four on goal while Ashmore tallied four shots, two on goal and a brace. Jakobsen tied the school record for single game assists with four.
The Eagles will play their rescheduled match against Mount Mercy Monday, Oct. 31 at 1:00 p.m. at Davis Field in the regular season finale.
Central will look to claim their fourth consecutive Heart Regular Season title and fifth in the last six seasons, in addition to their 50th straight home win.
